Retired former Texans Pro Bowl offensive lineman Wade Smith held a charity event and fashion show Friday night at Clé Houston in Midtown.
The event raised money for his charitable foundation and reading program, which is focused on educational support for underprivileged students. Smith has raised more than $130,000 in scholarships.
Smith, who wrote a children's book called "Smitty hits the Play Books," is passionate about helping others.
"I'm trying to raise as much money as possible for these kids in Houston for the Smitty scholarship program," Smith said. "At this point, we've given out over $130,000 in scholarships and we want to be able to raise enough money to double that.
