Ex-Texans linebacker DeMeco Ryans released by Eagles

A linebacker Texans fans affectionately called "D-Wreck" is now a free agent.

DeMeco Ryans, who was chosen by the Houston Texans with the first pick of the second round in the 2006 NFL draft, was released on Wednesday by the Philadelphia Eagles.

Ryans played six seasons with the Texans, from 2006-2011, and was given the NFL Rookie Defensive Player of the Year Award in 2009.

The two-time Pro-Bowler was traded by the Texans to the Philadelphia Eagles before the 2012 season. He was traded along with a third-round pick in the 2012 draft, which turned out to be quarterback Nick Foles, in return for the Eagles' third and fourth round picks in that draft.
