What is the nature of torn patellar tendons?
Patellar tendon rupture typically occurs when the quadriceps muscle is overloaded while it is contracting. It can occur in an otherwise healthy athlete with no predisposing factors.

How rare is that kind of injury?
Knee injuries in professional football players are common.
