The Texans placed right tackle Derek Newton on the reserve/PUP list Saturday. He is expected to miss the entire 2017 season after tearing both of his patellar tendons in October 2016.
Newton has played 4,473 snaps over the past five seasons, the second-most by a Houston Texan over that span behind only LT Duane Brown.
Over that time, Newton has slowly become one of the better tackles in the league, as he graded out above 80.0 in both 2014 and 2015. On top of that, he was PFF’s highest-graded right tackle in run blocking in 2014.
