The Indianapolis Colts made it official, cutting former Texans Pro Bowl wide receiver Andre Johnson on Wednesday.
Johnson was released one year into a three-year, $21 million contract.
The presence of young wide receivers like T.Y. Hilton was a factor in the decision along with Johnson's decline in production. He had no 100-yard receiving games last season in 16 games and 14 starts.
Johnson, 34, was due a nonguaranteed $5 million base salary this season and has a $7.5 million salary-cap figure.
Johnson hasn't contemplated retirement, according to his agent, Kennard McGuire.
"Retirement hasn't been discussed," McGuire told The Chronicle during the NFL scouting combine.
