Cam Akers was the No. 1 running back recruit in the nation out of high school before his debut at Florida State in 2017. Two NFL teams and two Achilles injuries later, Akers isn't lacking in confidence. Based on training camp and preseason returns, the new Houston Texans running back isn't lacking in talent, either.
"I think it's easy to see [Akers' talent] in these preseason games," Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik said last week. "He's made plays, he's made people miss in space. ... He's done everything we've asked him to do."
Akers' preseason statistics to date aren't exactly eye-popping with 59 yards across 17 carries.
