Buddy Ryan, one of the most legendary defensive coordinators in NFL history, has died at the age of 82, according to multiple reports. He had been battling cancer for some time.
Born in Oklahoma, Ryan was the mastermind behind one of the most fearsome defensive fronts in football history with the 1985 Chicago Bears and the 46 Defense. The defense is widely credited with leading the Bears to a Super Bowl XX victory.
He began his NFL coaching career back in 1961 with the Buffalo Bills before moving to the New York Jets and helping that team win Super Bowl III.
