Bill O'Brien: 'A lot of things we have to do better' on special teams

When the Texans hired former New England Patriots special-teams ace Larry Izzo, they were hoping for a resurgent performance from their special teams units.

Although it's hard to pin the units' breakdowns on the new special-teams coordinator, the Texans could stand for improvement in several areas in that phase of the game.

Texans rookie kick returner Tyler Ervin and reserve cornerback Charles James lost each lost one fumble on kickoff returns during a 27-0 loss to the New England Patriots. The Texans are averaging just 5.9 yards per punt return, allowing 12.4 yards per punt return and averaging 20.
