During a conference call with the Houston media Wednesday, New England coach Bill Belichick was asked about similarities between Texans defensive end J.J. Watt and former New York Giants outside linebacker Lawrence Taylor.
As the Giants' linebackers coach and defensive coordinator from 1980 through 1990, Belichick coached Taylor for 11 seasons. Taylor, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and Watt are the only three-time winners of the NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award.
"Motor, effort, strength, quickness, instincts (and) the ability to make game-changing plays at critical times in the game," Belichick said about Watt and Taylor.
