Cut by the Texans, undrafted rookie cornerback Cleveland Wallace III was awarded to the San Francisco 49ers off waivers Thursday.
The Texans open the preseason on the road against the 49ers and practice with them in Santa Clara, Calif., next week.
Wallace was released Wednesday one day after he passed his physical and was activated from the physically unable to perform list.
An undrafted free agent from San Jose State, Wallace became a second-team All-Mountain West Conference selection after transferring from the University of Washington.
He intercepted four passes in 25 games at San Jose State and one pass in 10 games at Washington.
