The first episode of this year's installment of HBO Hard Knocks followed the Houston Texans in the lead-up to their opening preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers, including a day of brawls in a joint practice with the Washington Redskins? What's next? Here's three things to watch for during Episode 2.
Reaction To Episode 1
The Houston Texans got an honest glimpse of themselves after reviewing the season premiere, and of course that's going to up the self-awareness quotient as things progress.
“It’s good for the organization to get that exposure, to be out there in the world,” JJ Watt said. “It’s a lot of fun to see so many different people get spotlighted.
“You can’t fabricate anything. There’s cameras here 24 hours a day, so you do your business, and whatever they decide to put on the show, that’s who you are.
More Bill O'Brien Swearing
The Texas head coach believes that Hard Knocks is good for the Texans, but he's hoping that his mother keeps the dial tuned elsewhere as he makes his star turn on HBO. We now know that probably had something to do with how much he swears. Expect the four-letter words to rain down even more as training camp heats up through Episode 2 and beyond.
The QB Competition Continues
Neither Brian Hoyer or Ryan Mallett have built a distinct advantage in OTAs, training camp, or the team's first preseason showdown. That means the push and pull between the two contenders will continue dominate a solid portion of Tuesday's show. Continue to watch out for Tom Savage's underdog story. It'd be great TV if he somehow mucks up the starting competition with a late push.
