Houston Texans running back Arian Foster suffered a groin injury in training camp yesterday, and now John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports that Foster will be placed on injured reserve with the designation to return before the start of the regular season.
Foster would not be eligible to play for the first eight weeks of the season in that event, though he can practice with the team after six weeks if he’s healthy enough to do so. Houston has a bye in Week Nine, which would give him another week to be fully healthy.
According to McClain, Foster will have his surgery on Friday.
Houston is looking for “someone that can do a little bit of everything” to help fill in for Foster, but failed to reach an agreement with Pierre Thomas after he visited the team on Wednesday.
Alfred Blue, Chris Polk, Jonathan Grimes, and Kenny Hilliard are the other running backs currently on the Texans roster.
