The Houston Texans are desperately looking to pick up their second win of the season after a 1-4 start, and they'll get a great chance to do so on Sunday against the Jaguars. Here are three reasons why they'll do just that this weekend:
3) Brian Hoyer taking control of the quarterback position
Houston began the season with Brian Hoyer as the starter, before switching to Ryan Mallett during the first game of the season. Mallett was benched in Week 4 against the Atlanta Falcons , but started Week 5's contest against the Colts. Mallett took a hard hit to the ribs in Week 5, and Hoyer came in as a replacement. Mallett appeared ready to return to the game, but head coach Bill O'Brien left Hoyer in.
Hoyer played well, throwing for more than 300 yards, 2 TDs, and completed 77 percent of his passes. Expect him to have similar success this week against a struggling Jaguards secondary.
2) They're the Jaguars
Houston has absolutely dominated Jacksonville everywhere they've since 2010, winning seven of their past nine matchups. Both teams are struggling mightily, but the Texans are struggling because of injuries - not because of a lack of talent like the Jaguars.
1) Healthy Arian Foster
Foster hasn't made the kind of impact we usually see from him over the last two games since his return from a preseason groin injury, but head coach Bill O'Brien said Foster is close to full strength.
Foster said the injury did limit him, but he should be good to go this weekend:
“You can sprint as fast as you think you want to go in practice or in training or whatever, but there’s nothing like replicating a game feel. It’s just about getting out there and trusting it and trusting your rehab process.”
With Foster at or very close to 100%, Houston's offense adds another whole dimension.
