The Houston Texans hold the No. 22 overall pick in the NFL Draft after making the playoffs. The Texans won the AFC South, but came up well short against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Texans aren't picking very high, they can still add a major contributor in the first round. A solid pick can help the team make it back to the playoffs. Here are three players the Texans should target in the first round:
3. A'Shawn Robinson, DT, Alabama Crimson Tide
Robinson doesn't fill quite the same need the next two players do, but he could be the team's nose guard of the future. Vince Wilfork can't play much longer, and Louis Nix turned out to be a bust. He's strong against the run and could help control the line of scrimmage. He's also versatile enough to play a few different defensive line positions. He might not last to the Texans' pick, but he'd be a solid selection.
2. Paxton Lynch, QB, Memphis Tigers
There's a very good chance Lynch doesn't last to the No. 22 pick, and it's more likely than not he's been off the board for awhile. However, Lynch is the only QB outside of Jared Goff worth taking in the first round. He has the size, arm strength, mobility and accuracy NFL teams want. He's not perfect, but he can be a true franchise QB. Players like Connor Cook, Carson Wentz and Christian Hackenberg aren't worth of going in the first round. They aren't ready to contribute and that doesn't really help the Texans right now. If Goff or Lynch are off the board, the Texans
1. Ezekiel Elliott, RB, Ohio State Buckeyes
The Texans will reportedly cut Arian Foster, meaning running back is going to be a major need. The team's running back committee of Chris Polk, Jonathan Grimes and Alfred Blue wasn't good enough last season. Elliott is by far the best running back in this year's class and is a true workhorse back. He might not make it to pick No. 22, but he'd be a great selection if he does. He's the only RB worth taking in the first round.
