With the 83rd overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Houston Texans have selected Louis Nix III out of Notre Dame.
Position: Nose Tackle
Measurables: 6’2”, 331 lbs, 33” arm length, 9 ⅞” hands
After a star-making campaign for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in 2012, Nix was hobbled by injuries in 2013 -- playing just one game over the final six weeks of the season due to a left knee injury. He still posted 27 tackles with 2 tackles for a loss, and was originally projected as a middle first-round pick before an underwhelming showing at the NFL Combine.
Nix’s natural size is his biggest asset, and he uses that to attract double-teams in order to open gaps both on blitzes and in normal rushing schemes. He has an extreme amount of power behind him which he uses to shift blockers back towards the pocket, disrupting protection in order to increase production for the rest of the front seven.
