Steve Kerr’s painful season comes to an end

Steve Kerr can remember specific details from each of his six NBA championship celebrations.

For the first time in his professional career, he was on the wrong side of one of those parties.

The Warriors’ head coach stood near half court after the Warriors’ 93-89 Game 7 loss Sunday, waiting for the Cavaliers to finish celebrating so he could shake their hands. With his emotions waffling between shock and sorrow, he watched the building of the podium that would host Cleveland’s trophy presentation at Oracle Arena.

“We’ve had so many moments of joy together, and it was like, ‘Wow, we’re actually having a moment of sorrow as a team,’” Kerr said.
