Brittney Griner landed in San Antonio, Texas early Friday morning, less than 24 hours after President Joe Biden announced her release from a Russian prison in an exchange between U.S. and Moscow officials.
Griner, a Houston native who lives in Phoenix, spent the last 10 months in Russian custody. She was arrested in a Moscow airport in February after Russian authorities said her luggage contained cannabis-infused vape cartridges. Griner's legal team revealed in November she had been transferred to a Russian penal colony, which reportedly hastened U.S. efforts to facilitate a deal for her return.
