The Rockets reached an agreement to sign free agent guard Austin Rivers to help pick up the slack left by the hamstring injury to his former Clippers teammate Chris Paul, a person with knowledge of the deal said.
Rivers will sign a one-year, fully guaranteed deal, another person familiar with the agreement said. Rivers spoke with Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni on Saturday before reaching the deal on Sunday morning.
Rivers averaged a career-high 15.1 points last season, but was dealt to the Washington Wizards in the off-season. He averaged just 7.2 points on 39.2 percent shooting this season before he was dealt to the Phoenix Suns in the trade that returned Trevor Ariza to Washington.
