NBA Hall of Famer Rudy Tomjanovich is among the most celebrated coaches of the 1990s, and the former Houston Rockets leader was recognized by the NBA on Sunday with the 2024 Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by the National Basketball Coaches Association. Tomjanovich used his time in the spotlight to spotlight another member of the championship-era Rockets.
Tomjanovich, now 75 and nearly 20 years removed from his last coaching gig, used Sunday’s press conference at TD Garden to stump for former Rockets guard and current Celtics assistant coach Sam Cassell, who was a candidate for numerous head coaching positions in recent seasons.
