The Rockets will waive forward James Nunnally on Monday, in time to sign center Kenneth Faried before facing the 76ers, a person with knowledge of the deal said.
The Rockets had hoped to open a roster spot for Faried without releasing Nunnally after just two games but were unable to complete an agreed-upon trade of Carmelo Anthony to the Bulls in time.
Anthony eventually will go to the Bulls along with cash in a deal similar to the Rockets' trade earlier this season of Michael Carter-Williams to Chicago.
The Bulls, as with Carter-Williams, intend to release Anthony, making him a free agent.
