Rockets to sign Brandan Wright after Grizzlies buyout

The Rockets on Friday were close to an agreement to sign free agent center Brandan Wright, an outstanding pick-and-roll target who was working Friday on a buyout with the Memphis Grizzlies, according to two individuals with knowledge of his thinking.

Wright had averaged five points and 3.4 rebounds in 13.6 minutes per game. In his 13 seasons, he has averaged seven points and 3.6 rebounds in 16.2 minutes, making 60.7 percent of his shots.

The Rockets have an open roster spot, but are expected to continue to be active in the buyout market. Wright would have to clear waivers before he can be signed as a free agent.
