The Rockets landed one of the frontcourt players they had long sought on Saturday, reaching agreement with New Orleans free agent power forward Ryan Anderson on a four-year, $80 million contract, a person close to Anderson said. The individual spoke on the condition of anonymity because the deal has not been announced.
Anderson is considered one of the top range-shooting power forwards in the NBA, making 37.7 percent of his 3-pointers. The Rockets had tried to trade for him several times in recent seasons, particularly when they sent center Omer Asik to New Orleans two seasons ago.
The Rockets had been pursuing a deal for Atlanta free agent center Al Horford and could still structure Anderson's deal or make other moves in a way to have the cap room for both.
