Rockets start with guard-filled roster

With the Rockets trade for Tyler Ennis on Thursday and the additions to the training camp roster of guards Gary Payton II, Isaiah Taylor and Bobby Brown (along with forward Kyle Wiltjer), the Rockets would seem to have a surplus of guards.

Nine players are listed as guards, including K.J. McDaniels who also plays as a forward. Roughly six are point guards.

Rockets general manager Daryl Morey said he intentionally wanted a great deal of competition for the final roster spots and potentially for an occasional place in the rotation behind the expected backcourt mix of James Harden, Pat Beverley and Eric Gordon.
