Rockets, Mike D'Antoni cut off negotiations on contract extension

Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni will go into the final season of his four-year contract with the Rockets with the limited negotiations on a contract extension ending on Thursday.

The Rockets had offered only a one-year extension, heavily based on incentives, according to a person with knowledge of the offer. D’Antoni told Rockets general manager Daryl Morey and owner Tillman Fertitta that he would like to coach for three more years, but was willing to have just one season added to his current contract.

Talks broke down over having that one season based on performance-based incentives tied to next season.
