Monday night doesn't exactly mark a happy NBA Finals anniversary, but it certainly commemorates one of the more memorable nights in the league's modern history—and not necessarily because of the action on the court.
June 17, 1994 was Game 5 of the NBA Finals, a 91-84 New York Knicks victory over the Houston Rockets. Viewers of the NBC broadcast three decades prior also likely remember the other action on screen that night, the famed car chase between O.J. Simpson and Los Angeles police. Live footage of the Simpson chase created a split screen for sizable portion of the broadcast on a number of NBC affiliates, and for some broadcasts, the game broadcast was interrupted completely for affiliate stations choosing to air the chase in full.
