The Houston Rockets didn’t make a major splash in free agency with their first signing Monday afternoon. But the two-year, $10 million deal for guard Aaron Holiday continues Houston’s positioning for a future blockbuster this winter.
We shouldn’t exactly jettison Holiday from Houston immediately upon news of his two-year deal with a team option for 2025-26. The six-year veteran is a suitable reserve guard in coach Ime Udoka’s rotation, a strong shooter who could admittedly lose minutes in 2024-25 if Reed Sheppard is ready for professional competition. Holiday—not to be dismissive—is effectively a replacement-level NBA guard.
