Rockets guard Pat Beverley opted to undergo arthroscopic knee surgery on Tuesday and is expected to be out for four to six weeks, a person with knowledge of the decision said on Saturday.

The individual spoke on the condition of anonymity because the Rockets had not yet announced the plan to treat the irritation in Beverley's left knee.

Beverley had not played since the Rockets first preseason game and had met with doctors several times to consider treatment options. He met on Saturday with Rockets team physician Walter Lowe, who will perform the procedure.

Rockets coach Mike D'Antoni on Friday indicated that Beverley could miss the season's first 20 games.
