For the past month, it looked like the Rockets would end up with Paolo Banchero at the No. 3 pick. Instead, the Orlando Magic shocked everyone by taking the Duke star No. 1 overall Thursday night. The Oklahoma City Thunder followed by taking Gonzaga's Chet Holmgren at No. 2, which left Auburn's Jabari Smith for the Rockets at No. 3.
The thought heading into the draft was that the Magic would take Smith at the top, then the Thunder would grab Holmgren, allowing the Rockets to grab Banchero. Instead, the 6-foot-10, 250-pound Banchero is headed to Orlando.
