The NBA, unable to use its considerable weight to influence change to a controversial North Carolina law, on Thursday acted on its threat to take it's ball and go elsewhere.
The NBA will pull the 2017 All-Star Game and its week-long related events from Charlotte, N.C. because of its objection to North Carolina House Bill 2, which limited anti-discrimination protections for lesbian, gay and transgender people in the state.
Having cited its objection to the bill that was passed and signed into law in March, the NBA announced it would quickly choose another venue for its showcase event while hoping changes to North Carolina state law would allow Charlotte to hold the All Star game in 2019.
