Longtime Utah Jazz coach Jerry Sloan died Friday morning at the age of 78 due to complications from Parkinson's disease and Lewy body dementia.
Sloan, who was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009, spent 23 seasons as head coach of the Jazz (1988-2011), finishing his career with the third-most wins in NBA history, going 1,221-803 in his career. He led the Jazz to two NBA Finals and 16 consecutive winning seasons.
Sloan also ranks second on the NBA's all-time list for consecutive games coached with one franchise (1,809).
“Jerry Sloan will always be synonymous with the Utah Jazz," the team said in a statement released Friday.
