Future Hall of Fame point guard Russell Westbrook is fond of passing the game to the next generation, and he’s funded a number of AAU and youth teams in Southern California across the last decade-plus. Westbrook’s charitable efforts came back to bite him Wednesday night.
Westbrook and the Nuggets were blitzed by the visiting Houston Rockets in a 128-108 Houston win, a game in which guard Jalen Green poured in 34 points on just 16 shots. The extra sting for Westbrook? Green was once a player on the Westbrook-funded “Why Not” AAU team, a catalyst for his rise as a prep player in the late 2010s.
