Rockets fans had convinced themselves they were landing Duke's Paolo Banchero with the No. 3 pick in Thursday's NBA draft, and all the experts told them they were right. Instead, the Orlando Magic fooled everyone and grabbed Banchero with the top pick. Everyone was so sure the Magic were taking Auburn's Jabari Smith at No. 1 that Banchero didn't even go to Orlando to visit with team officials.
Instead, Smith fell directly into the Rockets' lap.
The 6-foot-10 Smith is thought to be one of the best defensive players and the best big-man shooter in the entire draft.
