MIAMI - Not many coaches have had the luxury and challenge of pairing two ball-dominant superstar players as Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni does this season with Russell Westbrook and James Harden.
The Heat’s Erik Spoelstra has been there.
Spoelstra said it took until the second season with LeBron James and Dwyane Wade playing together before they were truly playing off one another, rather than taking turns, but he expected Harden and Westbrook to also “figure it out.”
“It takes a little bit of time, but great players want that and need it,” Spoelstra said. “It’s well-documented it took us over a year to get on the same page, but there were brilliant moments even in that first year, even in the playoffs.
