Ivey made a name for himself as a standout guard at the University of Texas from 2000-04, where he started a school record 126 games for the Longhorns under former coach Rick Barnes. Ivey earned a pair of Big 12 All-Defense selections during his time in Austin, and in 2003, he played a pivotal role in leading Texas to the Final Four. Two decades later, Ivey will now to make a major impact from the sidelines alongside Udoka.
Ivey’s qualifications for the role in Houston stem from far more than his success as a player, in which he parlayed a quartet of seasons at Texas into an NBA career that spanned 10-plus years.
