Former Rockets guard Jeremy Lin slams Donald Trump for 'empowering' racism during coronavirus crisis

Former NBA player Jeremy Lin is voicing criticism of President Donald Trump's rhetoric in the midst of the global coronavirus pandemic.

Lin, who played for the Rockets from 2012 to 2014, has been frequently tweeting about the use of "Chinese virus" by some Republican politicians. Many experts and medical officials say the term, used instead of coronavirus or COVID-19, fuels racism by associating a disease with a certain group of individuals.

"Fear and anxiety about a disease can lead to social stigma toward people, places, or things," the Centers for Disease Control says on its website.
