The overreactions on social media to Rockets rookie forward Jabari Smith Jr.'s debut against Orlando Magic forward Paolo Banchero were comical, to put it kindly. In the Rockets' Summer League opener against the Magic, Smith scored just 10 points, shooting 4-for-10 from the field, and 1-for-4 from 3; meanwhile, Banchero dazzled, scoring 17 points on 5-for-12 shooting (including 2-for-3 from 3), dishing out six assists, showing off his full repertoire of stepback jumpers, footwork and dribble moves. The peanut gallery was out in full force.
Fans expressed their extreme disappointment afterwards; some of you even asked me in person why Smith was selected altogether instead of, say, Jaden Ivey.
