The Rockets were front and center in the NBA world for a 24-hour window, even in the midst of the NBA Finals, with their trade of starting center Christian Wood to Dallas last week. In return for Wood, the Rockets received a package of players included in the trade just for salary matching purposes (Boban Marjanovic, Marquese Chriss, Trey Burke, Sterling Brown) and the 26th pick in next week's draft. The deal came as a surprise solely that I was expecting a trade on draft night rather than one week in advance.
Readers of this page will recall that I had been advocating that the Rockets at least explore the market for Wood as far back as last offseason; I was dismayed at the trade deadline when he remained on the roster.
