Dennis Schroder already has shown how he can help young Rockets

On a quiet trade deadline, the Rockets' sole move was to trade big man and 2021 free agent acquisition Daniel Theis for a package headlined by veteran point guard Dennis Schroder. The trading of Theis wasn't much of a surprise at all and was treated as a fait accompli by those following the team once it became clear that center Christian Wood would not be dealt. After the surprise emergence of rookie Alperen Sengun, the Rockets' frontcourt had just become too crowded for Theis to obtain meaningful minutes. After news of the trade initially broke, most observers expected the team to follow up by buying out the 28-year-old Schroder, who is playing out a one-year, $5.
