As Alexi Lalas said in Fox Sports' post-game coverage of the United States national team's 2-0 loss to Colombia, nothing good came from this loss for the US. Nobody played well and the result was a loss that significantly sets back the Americans' quest for a place in the quarterfinal.
It was bad from the beginning. A goal from Colombian center-back Cristian Zapata in the eighth-minute set the tone for a game that would never go the way of the US. Zapata broke free from Geoff Cameron on a corner-kick—mostly thanks to a clever pick play drawn up by Colombia—and found himself open near the penalty spot, slamming a left-footed volley past a helpless Brad Guzan and immediately deflating a hyped Levi's stadium.
