The Houston Dynamo advanced in the 2019 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup with a 3-2 win over Austin Bold FC at BBVA Compass Stadium on Tuesday night.
The defending U.S. Open Cup champions began their title defense with a flying start, scoring three goals in the first half of play. Tomás Martínez scored the first and set up Ronaldo Peña for the second goal. Peña then turned provider, with a slick backheel to Matías Vera for the Argentine's first goal with the club.
Austin fought back in the second half with a deflected free kick goal by Xavier Báez and a rebound scored by Isaac Promise, but the Dynamo held on for the win.
