The Houston Dash captured the first title in team history with a 2-0 win over the Chicago Red Stars this afternoon in the NWSL Challenge Cup Championship presented by Budwesier.
Goals in the first five minutes and the final five minutes, combined with a stout defensive performance throughout the match, were enough to see the Dash hoist the crystal trophy amid a shower of confetti at Rio Tinto Stadium.
The Dash took an early lead off of a penalty kick from midfielder Sophie Schmidt. The Canadian international stepped up to the spot and coolly sent Chicago goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher the wrong way before burying her shot in the lower right corner of the net.
