El Tri defeated Honduras, 3-0, on Thursday night at Mexico City's Azteca Stadium to move five points clear of second-place Costa Rica on the Hexagonal table at the midway point of the final round.
Mexico began the game slowly, and memories of Honduras' last visit to Mexico for a WCQ game surely crept into minds of the home fans. In 2013, Honduras took all the points with a 2-1 victory.
That did not happen on Thursday.
