The Major League Soccer playoffs will have a new look in 2019 after the league announced its plans to adopt a single-elimination playoff structure on Monday. The league also announced plans for the playoffs to take place between October and November—rather than ending in December.
As part of the new structure, higher-seeded clubs will host all matches throughout the playoffs in an effort to reward regular season success.
With the league set to expand next season (with the addition of FC Cincinnati), the number of clubs qualifying for the playoffs will increase from 12 to 14 (seven per conference).
