The Houston Dynamo announced today the signing of veteran Honduran center back Maynor Figueroa. Figueroa, 35, has been the captain of the Honduran national team and has had a lengthy career in England where he played for Wigan Athletic and Hull City. He’s also experienced in MLS having played for the Colorado Rapids and most recently FC Dallas.
While the signing of a 35 year old player who turns 36 in May might not seem too appealing, the grueling schedule of navigating the MLS regular season, US Open Cup, and CONCACAF Champions League make his experience and leadership very valuable.
