Former Houston Dynamo defender David Horst announced his retirement on Wednesday, concluding an 11-year MLS career.

After a hard fought 11 years in the MLS, I have decided to hang up my boots. I fulfilled the dream of a small town boy, but now it is time to take on a new dream. I have overcome almost all obstacles in my career, but the human body can only endure so much. After tearing my achilles this year, this will be one comeback I won’t be making. I want to thank my family who was there for me my whole career, all the coaches I ever had that pushed me to get better every day, and most importantly my amazing wife who joined me on this journey and never let me give up when times got tough.
