Fifth-ranked Canada earned their first win in their opening game against Cameroon this evening at Stade de la Mosson. Three of the four Houston Dash players representing Canada were part of the starting XI in the 1-0 victory.
Canada took the lead in the first half when defender Kadeisha Buchanan took part of a corner rising above and powering a header into the ground and in the back of the net past Cameroon’s goalkeeper Annette Ngo Ndom.
Canada started attacking from the beginning, threatening the Cameroon goal with a total of 16 shots throughout the game. Dash midfielder Nichelle Prince had tested her luck in the first half when Dash teammate Allysha Chapman drilled a ball across the goal to Prince who fired a low shot towards the near post.
