Stand-out freshman earns top honor

One Cougar’s record-breaking season continued on Wednesday when he was named a Freshman First Team All-American by Baseball America.

Freshman first baseman Joe Davis takes home the honor after a season that saw him hit for both average and power. The award comes as no surprise, as Davis recorded a .331 average with 14 home runs and 58 RBI.

Davis’ home run and RBI marks set new single-season team records for a freshman. The Austin, Texas native also hit 17 doubles, which tied the freshman record in the category.

Despite being just a freshman, Davis showed an uncanny ability to hit in the clutch.
