Cougars drop series opener, 2-1, to Knights

The Cougars returned to Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park on Friday night to open a three game series against the University of Central Florida Knights.

In a battle of right-handers, Houston’s junior pitcher Andrew Lantrip took to the hill searching for his fifth win and hoped to avenge last Friday’s loss to East Carolina University.

UCF went with sophomore Cre Finfrock, who has been solid for the Knights in his role as a Friday night starter. Finfrock entered the matchup with a 2-2 record and 2.83 ERA.

Both pitchers cruised through their first five innings of work, but Lantrip ran into trouble in the top of the sixth inning.
