Whenever the Astros bring in a new pitcher from outside the organization, I automatically think about the possible changes the coaching staff will try to implement. Are there any adjustments to pitch sequencing? Is there a pitch the team wants to see more of? How about location? That thought process was no different with Yusei Kikuchi making his Astros debut.
Of course, it is worth noting that one start is obviously a small sample. There isn’t enough data to make a firm conclusion. Any adjustments by Kikuchi would have to carry over into future appearances. With that said, the left-hander implemented some noticeable adjustments in usage against the Rays on Friday compared to what he had already done this season with the Blue Jays.
