With the 28th Pick, Houston Selects Walter Janek

Walker Janek is a six-foot, 190 lb. catcher from Portland, TX. Born on September 24, 2002, he joins the Astros system out of San Houston State University with the 28th overall selection in the draft.

Janek’s five tools average out at an impressive 50 (future major leaguer), with only his speed (rated 40) and arm (rated 60) at a different level. These are both acceptable for a catcher.

In three seasons of collegiate play, Janek never finished a season below .300 in batting average. He slashed an overall .325/.476/.709, with 37 home runs and 156 RBI in 166 contests.
